Virulence profiles of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from 2 large dairy farms in China

We recently reported on the diversity of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from dairy herds in China. In our previous work, isolates subclinical mastitis (SCM) had lower indices when compared with bacteria other sources, possibly due to a contagious-like spread udder adapted strains. Here we explored virulence profile and capsular types K. different sources 2 farms Our overarching goal was gain insights role genes toward severity caused by pneumoniae. A total 1,484 samples were collected clinical (CM; n = 355), SCM (n 561), bulk tank milk (BTM; 130), environmental extramammary (EE) sites 438). From those, 431 obtained, including 129, 77, 66, 159 CM, SCM, BTM, EE samples, respectively. Polymerase chain reactions used determine detect potential all isolates. No significant farm effects observed comparing distribution most each source. K57 prevalent type but increased detection rate CM. entB, kfu, fimH1, mrkD, β-d-lacZ frequently detected sources. β-d-lacZ, ituA more whereas allS, nif SCM. ybtS, aerobactin, rpmA prevalence BTM association between gene highest discriminatory power classify CM Based findings, it is likely that dominant causing large Chinese herds. Likewise, demonstrated disseminated farms, irrespectively source bacteria. results also suggest low contribution severity. Finally, increasing adaptability promoting warrants further investigation.
